Neurological Rehab Care…

The Mission

Brains are fragile.  When your child or family member experiences neurological damage or disorder, the clinical care that you and your loved one experience can be cold and isolating.  Not only do you feel helpless, but you feel alone; nobody really knows what neurological rehabilitation is until they have to go through it.

At Synapse NeuroRelab, we understand the complicated and layered needs that neurological deficits and disorders can require of families. We work to support the current needs and future growth of our patients to give them the best opportunities to be an active member of their community.

Synapse Neuro Relab was created as a response to the ever-changing face of neuro rehab care. At Synapse Neuro Relab, we believe that the person comes first, the goals are functional, and the care is exceptional.

Why "Synapse"?

A synapse is the moment in the brain where two neurons connect and pass messages to each other. We create these as we learn and grow throughout our lifetimes. These synapses create the thoughts, the movements, and actions that we need to complete basic life functions. In naming the company Synapse NeuroRelab (SNR), We aim to provide the connection to improve the quality of life for our patients and families by utilizing a combination of therapeutic techniques and tools. The goal of SNR is to provide intelligent, comprehensive, and compassionate care that helps foster growth and independence.

The History of SNR

Synapse NeuroReLab, LLC was created in 2022 by Robin Miller-Gioia. An intense advocate for her patients in neurological rehabilitation, Robin wanted to develop a program that would encourage more interdisciplinary care and innovation for children, adolescents and young adults with neurological deficits and disorders as well create a network of clinical expertise to support each individual patient. While we are at the very start of our journey, SNR has high hopes to improve the quality of care for individuals, improve equity in healthcare delivery, and provide person-centered growth and support as the patient transitions back into their community.

About Robin

Robin received her undergraduate degree in Spanish and master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at Rockhurst University. She is currently working on her clinical doctorate (SLPD) through KU. She has been an American Speech-Language Hearing Association certified clinician since 2008. She is licensed in the states of Missouri and Kansas and is also a Certified Brain Injury Specialist.

Her area of clinical expertise is neurological rehabilitation in pediatric patients, but she has also worked extensively across the lifespan. She created the concept for SNR because she wanted to be a part of a true, patient-centered company. There is always going to be paperwork, productivity standards, and a plethora of things that contribute to a business, but before we are companies or workers, we are people. In healthcare, the patient oftentimes gets lost in all the plans and doesn’t get what is needed because we are throwing all the things at them and not listening to what they need. In starting SNR, Robin hopes to bring about change, even if it is small, to remind people that they are worth the time and effort.

Robin was born and raised in the heart of Kansas City. While she loves to travel, her heart and home are here. She loves to spend time with her husband and two magical, creative, awesome children. In her spare time she loves plants and flowers, reading in her hammock, watching soccer, and playing with her dogs.

When I was feeling unsure where to turn, I received a recommendation from... a friend to try Synapse NeuroRehab. This was the best decision I made for my son who wasn’t in a position to make good decisions for himself and I wasn’t sure what would help my son heal. The relationship developed between my 30 year old son and Robin not only helped my son re-wire his brain processes but gave him a level of confidence that he would succeed. And he did. I will forever be grateful we found Robin I will never forget the work she provided to my son at a time I thought my world would never be the same Robin was the miracle we needed ❤️read more

Robin has been working with our oldest for a year now and we saw more... growth in a couple months than we did after an entire year at a large speech therapy group in leawood. Not only is she the absolute BEST at what she does but she is one of the most genuine and thoughtful people I know. She cares not only about her relationship with your child but also about her relationship with the whole family. This year has been full of some big adjustments for our family and she has shown us so much kindness and compassion. Going far beyond her role as our sons speech therapist. She means as much to me as she does to our son. We are so grateful to have her guidance and support as we all work together to give my son the extra tools he needs to be successful and happy in life!read more

My daughter went through a complete behavioral change out of nowhere. We... were dismissed by Children's Mercy ER even after our pediatrician was the one who told us to go to get an assessment and help. I contacted Synapse NeuroRelab and I cannot tell you how much Robin helped our girl.Robin listened and observed our kiddo and fought for us to get an assessment at a Pediatric Neurologist. She was constantly there telling us what we should say to be taken seriously in our current health system. Due to her advocating for our child, we were accepted by the neurologist due to her extensive notes and knowledgeable background. The advocacy we received from Robin and Synapse NeuroRelab was the best I have seen in all of my life. If you are curious on ways they can help, reach out and ask the questions. You will not be dismissed but instead be listened to and validated. Don’t wait. Synapse NeuroRelab is a leader in healthcare. Due to Robins advocacy, my child was found to have legitimate issues and is finally getting the help she needs.read more

Robin is really laid back, easy going, personable and easy to get along... with. Robin worked with me right out of the hospital and I was planning to go to a Community College because my talking and reading took a big toll when I was recovering in the hospital. Now, I'm at a B1G University and couldn't be more grateful for the work she put in with me. Robin is a great person and an even better therapist!read more
